New hacienda style villa on the Riviera Maya!

In December of 2007, a new kind of villa opened on Punta Soliman on the Riviera Maya. Construction of this Hacienda style home started late in 2006. Once a small guest house with a tiny casita, Casa Buena Suerte is now the jewel of Soliman Bay. The key to the design is maximizing the outdoor space.

The concept was to create a great vacation spot on the sea, without disturbing the surrounding landscape. What resulted was a huge courtyard and outdoor living space overlooking the Caribbean. Turning lemons into lemonade, designer Marc Kenneth raised the structure just enough so that the sea is visible from just about every room in the Hacienda. He then took the outdoor space and existing swimming pool and recreated it as an outdoor living room. Removing the decaying pool structure was no small feat for the 25 Mayan workers who painstakingly rebuilt this structure. With sledgehammers and wheel barrows, they broke down and carted away the old pool and then rebuilt it as an "invisible room."

Just as the project was nearing completion, Hurricane Dean hit with 120 mph winds and a 20 foot storm surge! The design of the Hacienda turned out to be the perfect foil for Dean. Water came up through the property and passed through the front gate leaving the villa unscathed.

Thanks to the super strong concrete construction of the Mayan team headed by Andreas Field of Gruppo Ammex, the winds had little to no effect.

Guests from Ireland over the Christmas holiday hailed Casa Buena Suerte as their best vacation ever!
